GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB -- It was a long night for the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks who couldn't find the score sheet in a 3-0 loss to Grande Praire on Tuesday night.
The Canucks had score first in each of the series' first two games but in game three it was Grande Prairie who got on the board first. At the 5:18 mark Jake Goldsmith (Jeff McVey, Cody Atkinson) to a beautiful pass from behind the net and from the slot put a shot past Canucks' goaltender Cody Garnett to make the score 1-0 after one. Shots on goal in the first favoured the Canucks 11-10.
In the second it was much of the same but the Canucks just didn't seem to have "it". Late in the period we saw the game's Safeway turning point. With less than 6 minutes to play and the Wheelers on their first power play, Jake Goldsmith blasted a slap shot from the outside that Garnett appeared to have saved in his chest. Somehow the puck made its way through the goaltender and Cody Atkinson (Goldsmith, Nathan Johnson) had a tap in for his first of the series. Shots on goal in the 2nd were 12-8 for the Wheelers.
The Canucks didn't come out with much in the third and were unable to muster up any real sustained offensive attack. At the 15:11 mark Jeff mcVey (Mark Sauchenko, Jake Goldsmith) rounded out the scoring making the final score 3-0 for the Wheelers.
The Canucks were 0 for 3 on the power play and the penalty kill went 2 for 3.
Cardinal Telecom three stars: 1) Brausen 2) Goldsmith 3) Atkinson. Jock's hardest working Canuck: Colter MacLean.
The win gives the Wheelers a 2-1 series lead and a chance to wrap things up in game 4 on Friday night (8:15pm MST DGS Astro Paving Jr. Canucks Pre-Game Show and 8:30pm MST opening face off on Peace FM).
