DAWSON CREEK -- Cody Garnett stopped each of the 22 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season as the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks evened up their opening round best of 5 series with the Grande Prairie Wheelers.
It didn't take long for the Canucks to get on the board as Justin McLeod scored his 2nd goal in as many games at the 2:12 mark to make the score 1-0 (from Colter MacLean). Before the period was over John Howes scored his first of the post season after undressing the defenceman and beating goaltender Ryan Brausen. Dawson Creek was dominating the hockey game outshooting Grande Prairie 15-7 in the first period.
In the second the Canucks' finished off the scoring when Reid Smith (Evan Weaver, Justin McLeod) took a pass in the slot and fired it low through the legs of Brausen and into the back of the net. The score was 3-0 after two periods and the shots in the second period were 16-5 in favor of the Canucks.
The Wheelers had a few more opportunities to score in the third but were unable to beat netminder Garnett. Shots in the third favored Dawson Creek 13-10 and total shots in the hockey game were 44-22.
